The overall story line is of two towns that have a curse that is enforced by a witch (Emma W). The curse says the two towns (which evolved over time into two schools: San Francisco del Helado and Maria Magdalena de la Milka (these names are funny because San Francisco is the main park in Oviedo and there are a lot of ice cream (helado) stands nearby and Milka is a brand of chocolate that the kids obsess over!)).... Anyway, the two schools cannot have love nor friendship between them. However, three couples challenge this rule: Eva (Emma S) and Enrique (Ethan), David (Anthony) and Selena (Meredith), Esperanza (Tania) and Valentino (Brad). The plot includes lots of heartache and comedy and a happy ending, of course.
The songs we sang were: Loba (Shakira by Meredith), Dices (Selena Gomez by Alissa), Lo Mejor de Mi Vida Eres Tu (Ricky Martin by Emma S and Ethan), No Me Ames (JLo and Marc Anthony by Meredith and Anthony), Amigos (Enanitos Verdes by everyone) and Waka Waka (Shakira by everyone). We also had two dance numbers; one with Josue as a ladies' man and another as a dance off (Ven a Bailar, JLo).
Clara and Michael W created most of the choreography. Lucy was in charge of costumes. Annika was in charge of set design. Ellen W. and Coleen were in charge of the music. Erika, Alexis and Ellen H did the choreography for Waka Waka.
Everyone helped write at the beginning. Sarah oversaw the script and even took it all home with here one weekend and wrote out what was missing from each scene to make the whole thing flow more easily. LeAnna, Anna and Mason were the secondary writers!
Beth and Michael M played the parents of the sick boy. Parina was the narrator and Alex the announcer during the choir competition. Alissa played the new girl who just wanted to make friends and Alexis played a friend trying to help. Jordan played the harmonic during Parina's narration. Darbie, Sarah, Annika and Coleen were Meredith's popular group of friends. Taylore played Josh's girlfriend and gave him a good slap for talking to other girls! Mallory, Rachael K and Lucy were students in one of the classes. Tania and Brad gave very funny performances as the choir teachers of the respective schools. Their performance included a tango dance! Emma W gave an amazing performance as the witch! And Alissa nailed her song, Dices, that was NOT easy to sing with out gasping for breath!
I hope I didn't forget anyone! Everyone worked very hard. As I write this, I can't believe we pulled this off. None of us instructors has a clue as to how to run any kind of theatrical production!
